Customs Services


The Customs Division has approximately 85 staff members. The majority of its workforce are based in our Head Office located on the Ground Floor of the Ports Authority Building, Queen Salote Wharf, Vuna Road, Nuku'alofa (Tongatapu). The Nuku’alofa Port is 1 of 2 major Sea ports in Tonga and also the busiest.

Our Head Office houses the Office of the Deputy CEO and Head of the Customs & Trade Division, Cargo Clearance (One-Stop-Shop), Customs Warehouse and Excise, Tariff and Trade, Legal and Administration and Accounts Sections. The Offices of the Customs Border Management and Enforcement and Compliance Sections are located in the building adjacent to the Customs Head Office (previously the Friendly Island Shipping Office).


Customs also has a Border management services through its Office at its largest airport, Fua’amotu International Airport (Tongatapu). This Office is responsible for primary line control and clearance of aircrafts, travellers and air cargo arriving into Tonga


Our Customs Vava'u Office located on the Halaevalu Wharf, Neiafu, Vava’u manages all Customs operations at the Halaevalu International Wharf and the Lupepau'u International Airport.
